There are significant indications that Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu may run for governor in 2023, with Folashade Jaji, the incumbent Secretary to the State Government (SSG), as his running mate.
This comes after it was revealed that Sanwo-Deputy Olu’s Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadiri, may run for a Senate seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The appointment of Jaji as Deputy Governor is being considered to balance the gender equation as well as win the full support of womenfolk, who make up the majority of voters, and give them a sense of belonging, according to the Daily Independent.

It’s worth noting that former governors Babatunde Fashola and Akinwumi Ambode, in particular, had female deputies during their administrations in the state.

After his first term with Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat was said to be planning to relocate to Epe, where he initially wanted to run for Governor before altering it to senatorial after power bloc counsel.

Following this, he was encouraged to relocate to Ifako/Ijaiye and run for the Lagos West Senatorial district, which is currently vacant due to the incumbent, Senator Solomon Olamilekan, also known as Yayi, shifting to Ogun West.

Surprisingly, a number of candidates have emerged to succeed Yayi in the West Senatorial District. Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the former Minister of Defense, is one of them, with his colorful posters visible throughout the area.

Mrs Joke Orelope-Adefulire, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Senior Special Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), and Dr Idiat Adebule, both former deputy governors and former Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, are among the others.
