Through the National Association of Nigerian Students, Senate President Ahmad Lawan has urged students not to disturb political events.
Lawan delivered this message to NANS President Sunday Ashefon, as well as other union officials who were taken to his office by Methodist Bishop Dr. Sunday Onuoha.

Students had began to hold protests around the country, vowing to halt all political activity unless the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities could reach an agreement.

In response to the students’ threat to disrupt political activity, the Senate President urged them to stay on the path of consultation and avoid conflict.

“I want to advise,” he stated, “that I don’t believe it will be essential to disturb political activity.” That is not something we should or need to do.

“We must continue on the path of consultation, consolidation, and avoidance of conflict.” It’s lot easier for us to identify anything that you can consolidate when you emphasize consultation.”

Lawan also stated that the Senate would endeavor to resolve the strike as quickly as possible.
