Abiodun Alabi, the Lagos police commissioner, has declared that the majority of Okada riders in Lagos are criminals, despite his support for the government’s recent ban on their operations.
This allegation was made by Alabi on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily on Thursday, May 19, 2022.
The commissioner believes that the majority of commercial ‘okada’ riders engage in a variety of minor offenses.
“We’ve had talks with their executive members in various communities, and what we’ve discovered is that most of them aren’t even licensed, and that most of them are criminals masquerading as Okada riders,” Alabi added.
“And that’s why we’ve been having a lot of communication, talks, and meetings with their union, and during that process, I believe the best way out is to get them off our roads.” The majority of them are Okada riders who are actually criminals.”
