SDP Guber Ticket Won by Son of Ex-Kwara State Governor Lawal

Alhaji Hakeem Lawal, the son of late Alhaji Mohammed Lawal, the former Governor of Kwara State, has secured the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) governorship nomination in the state.

Mr Olatunji George, the party’s electoral committee chairman, proclaimed Lawal the winner of the party’s primary election, which took place on Monday night at Arca Center Hall in Ilorin.

Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, who received 177 votes, was defeated by Lawal, who received 607 votes.

According to NAN, delegate accreditation did not begin until around 2 p.m., and voting began at 5:20 p.m.

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and the party’s secretariat were present to observe the practice.

Nine votes, however, were nullified, according to George, who added that 792 delegates were credentialed from Kwara’s 16 local government areas.

According to NAN, neither of the two candidates attended the primaries.
