FG Wants To Punish Me By Sending Me To The United States – Abba Kyari Cries Out

Abba Kyari, a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, claims his detention and indictment are politically motivated.

According to Vanguard, those who are prosecuting him want to punish him.

He made the claim when he appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja, pleading with the court not to allow his extradition to the United States of America, USA, to stand prosecution for his association with Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, a notorious Internet fraudster.

Kyari, who is presently incarcerated on drug-related charges, claimed in new court documents that the intention to send him to the United States for prosecution was intended to punish him.

The embattled DCP told the court that his arrest and subsequent detention had a “political undertone,” and that the request to extradite him to the United States was “intended to undermine the respondent’s assault on numerous crime organizations in Nigeria and globally.”

In a counter-affidavit signed by his younger brother, Mohammed, Kyari stated that all of the charges leveled against him are not extraditable.

“I know for a fact that the listed offenses are of a political nature and were, in fact, formed for the goal of prosecuting and punishing the respondent on the basis of his race, nationality, and was not made in good faith or in the interest of justice,” the deponent claimed.

Before he was framed up and imprisoned, Kyari informed the court that he was a highly decorated senior police officer who was already conducting a “sting probe” on Ramon Olorunwa Abbas or Abdulraman Imraan Juma, also known as Hushpuppi.

“A copy of the respondent’s letter to Interpol on January 28, 2020, and to the Inspector General of Police on March 3, 2020, in relation to the sting investigation that the respondent is conducting, are herewith attached as Exhibits 1a and 1b, respectively.” This was five months before to the FBI’s arrest of Ramon Abbas and others.

There is no record or verified evidence to back up the extradition request. The proposal has a political undertone and is intended to undercut the respondent’s crackdown on numerous crime organizations in Nigeria and globally.

“The request is for the aim of prosecuting or punishing the respondent for his country’s defense.”

“The respondent is facing a slew of charges designed to break him down as a result of his accomplishments and several national honors. A copy of the charge framed against the Respondent by the NDLEA is herewith attached as Exhibit 2.

The offences are trumped up and the Respondent is seriously committed to defending himself.”

However, the Federal Government, through the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, in its own affidavit deposed to by one Bello Abubakar Sholadoye, said it had sufficient evidence to warrant Kyari’s extradition to the US for trial.

It told the court that the office of the AGF “was in receipt of extradition request vide a diplomatic channel for the extradition of the Respondent fugitive wanted to stand trial in the USA.

“That the AGF is satisfied that there is no bar to the extradition application,” it said.

Meanwhile, Justice Inyang Ekwo has adjourned the matter till today to enable FG’s lawyer, Mr. Pius Akutah, respond to Kyari’s preliminary objection against his planned extradition.

The court said it would take both the objection and the substantive suit together.
