Sowore’s appointment as Chairman of the AAC is upheld by the Appeal Court

On Thursday, a Court of Appeal in Abuja confirmed Omoyele Sowore as the African Action Congress’s National Chairman.

The court ruled that a 2019 High Court decision removing Sowore as the Party’s chairman was beyond of its authority, and that it was an internal matter.

In a judgment handed by Justice Iyang Ekwo in 2019, the High Court ruled it was convinced that Sowore, the AAC’s presidential flag-bearer, had been legitimately suspended by the party’s National Executive Committee.

The court overturned the decision, confirming Sowore as the National Chairman over one Leonard Nzenwa.

The applicants were later awarded a sum of N200,000 by the court.
