Mark Hunyani, a Zimbabwean man, has taken his wife, Netsai Rodzi, to court for concealing her hidden child from him.
The matter was tried at Harare Civil Court between the man and his wife, who claimed she had been subjected to gender-based abuse for concealing a kid from a prior marriage.
Rodzi revealed that Hunyani had physically beaten her for keeping her child hidden for seven years. She claims she had the child in 2016, after divorcing her old spouse, and kept it a secret from her new husband.
She stated,
“I never told him about my child because I wanted us to have a smooth transition into our new lives.”
“I’m at a loss for what to do; he’s been insulting and pestering me, and if he can’t forgive me, we should part ways.”
“I made a mistake, but I can’t keep putting up with what he’s doing to me.”
Hunyani, on the other hand, rejected the charges, claiming that his wife’s behavior was improper.
“If she claims she was never a prostitute, why did she hide the child from me and preserve the secret for seven years?” he said.
The protective order was obtained in Rodzi’s favor by presiding magistrate Sharon Mashavire.
