Former COAS Buratai Reveals How To End Insecurity In Nigeria After An Unsuccessful Tenure In Office
Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd), the Nigerian Ambassador to the Benin Republic, has proposed ways to combat the threat of insecurity confronting Nigeria, stating that everyone’s cooperation in creating a peaceful nation is required.
Buratai, a former Chief of Army Staff, addressed at Arewa House in Kaduna on Saturday at a one-day symposium on national security with the title ‘Politics and Insecurity in Nigeria: Way Forward.’
He went on to say that a holistic approach should include key stakeholders from society, such as religious leaders, youngsters, teachers, women, civil society, media, law enforcement, and security and intelligence organizations.
“Through entities such as the National Orientation Agency, among others, the people must be regularly sensitized and enlightened on their roles as stakeholders in the country’s security architecture,” he said.
Buratai also stated that revitalizing the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) would help the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) overcome the lack of specialized equipment and platforms needed to combat instability.
“This is critical in order to address AFN’s growing equipment needs in order to combat current and emerging security threats.”
“To do this, the Ministry of Defence, in partnership with stakeholders, may put in place institutions to ensure that DICON workers receive proper manpower training.”
“This would expand their capacity for producing military weapons for the AFN and augment their specialized staff,” he said.
