The Oyo State House of Assembly gave Engr Rauf Olaniyan, the state’s deputy governor, a notice of impeachment. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), on the other hand, has found problems with the move. The human rights group has also asked Muslims in the state to vote the governor out of office because of his actions against Muslims.

This was said in a statement that Professor Ishaq Akintola, who is in charge of MURIC, sent to the media on Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

This is what the whole thing says:

“The Oyo State House of Assembly gave Engr Rauf Olaniyan, the state’s deputy governor, a notice of impeachment last week. We say no to this plan. We know that Governor Makinde and his deputy have never gotten along. But only the governor knows why he wants his deputy to move out of the way.

“We told Makinde that the reason he wants to get rid of his deputy is religious. He wants to get rid of his deputy because that person doesn’t agree with his plan to make Oyo State more Christian. So, impeachment is a trick, and Christianizing the country is the real goal.

“Like Olaniyan, the new Muslim running mate will be used and then thrown away. Makinde can’t stand to be with a deputy who doesn’t agree with his view that Muslims should be excluded. The new running mate will also be put on the sidelines.

When the governor is done with him, he will also be put on the bench, and the same feeding-bottle lawmakers will be used to get rid of him.

“Makinde wants to run a system called Alpha and Omega, in which Muslim deputies can be changed whenever they want. This is how he protects his anti-Muslim policy. The schools will continue to be used for evangelism without being stopped, and Kollendar crusaders will be given special access to state schools and students.

“It is also his way of continuing the unjust, unlawful, illegal, illegitimate, and unconstitutional denial of Allah-given fundamental human rights of Muslims to timely promotion for Muslim judges in the state, despite merit and due qualifications.

“It’s also important to note that Makinde cancelled the Muslim Hijrah holiday without consulting anyone first, and that he appointed commissioners in an unfair way at the start of his administration.

“In the education sector, Muslims in Oyo State haven’t missed the effects of Makinde’s decisions to leave out teachers of Arabic and Islamic studies in the teachers recruitment exercise, to ask about CRS in job interviews to make Muslim candidates look bad, and to choose missionary-named schools for renovation in the special school remodeling project.

“But Makinde has done more than King Herod by making sure that Muslim girls who wear hijabs are treated unfairly, harassed, and scared in some schools in the state.

“There are too many of Makone’s anti-Muslim policies, actions, and inactions to list. But he’s still not done. After impoverishing the Muslim population in the state by robbing them of political offices, after denying Muslim children of their much loved Arabic and Islamic education, after exposing female Muslim students to intimidation and coercion and their parents to pain and anguish, he wants to bring down the sledge-hammer on his Muslim deputy.

“It was Ian Flemming, author of the James Bond series, who once wrote, ‘Once is happenstance, twice is a coincidence, the third time is enemy action’. The governor’s anti-Muslim antics have long become enemy action against Muslims of Oyo State.

“This is why the Muslims of Oyo State have only one option left and that is to ensure that their oppressor does not return in 2023 for a second term of injustice, a second term of oppression and a second term of downpression of Muslims under him. Makinde must be voted out. He has misused and outlived his mandate. Oyo State Muslims will speak to him in the only language understood by oppressive governors.”
