Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has discussed the upcoming challenge of Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
The Gunners managed to secure a place in the final eight of the competition by beating PSV Eindhoven 9-3 on aggregate over two legs.
With the Champions League now the only likely piece of silverware that Arsenal can win this season, Mikel Arteta will be looking to make a deep run in the competition.
Following the latest round of fixtures, Arsenal discovered that they will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-finals.
It will be a huge game for many of the players, not least Martin Odegaard who returns to his old club for the first time since moving to the Emirates Stadium
Martin Odegaard discusses Real Madrid clash for Arsenal
Martin Odegaard spent six years at Real Madrid, with the playmaker joining the club as a promising youngster with a big future.
He never quite fulfilled that with Los Blancos, making just 11 appearances for the Spanish giants before leaving permanently in 2021.
In the four years since then, Odegaard has cemented himself as a key option for Arsenal, going on to become captain.
With the star set for his first return against his old side, he discussed the huge tie in the Arsenal official programme before the clash with Chelsea.
He said: “Of course, it will be a huge couple of matches against Real Madrid, and for me personally it will be special to play against my former team.
“We believe in ourselves and we know what we can do, and our form in the Champions League has been very strong, winning seven of our ten matches so far.
“We can’t wait for that first leg here at Emirates Stadium next month. It’s going to be a beautiful night.”
It certainly suggests that the Norway international is excited to be facing off against his old club in the weeks ahead.
How Martin Odegaard’s Real Madrid and Arsenal statistics compare
While Odegaard was well-known at a young age due to his promise and the early switch to Real Madrid, his pathway there was never realised.
After making just 11 first-team appearances, and several loan switches, a loss for Los Blancos was the gain of Arsenal.
Odegaard has kicked on, going on to become an important player for the Gunners and his stats in comparison reveal just that.
