BREAKING NEWS: Benjamin Sesko jersey number confirmed,as recent report shows that the £60m striker have already agreed Pre contract agreement with Arsenal to join on a 5yr deal with option for further season if Arsenal lift the champions league
Arsenal have made “serious headway” in their attempts to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, according to reports.
Insider source the HandofArsenal claims that the Slovenian international has now decided to “prioritise” a move to the Gunners at the end of the season.
Both Chelsea and Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in Sesko but the player seems to be very keen on linking up with Mikel Arteta’s side.
It has been claimed that the 21-year-old has a release clause in his contract that will make any deal easier to complete. The fee is said to be quite high, though, with teams needing to pay around €80m (£67m).
Sesko is a long-term target
Arsenal did make a move for the same player last summer, but the forward eventually opted against leaving Leipzig, going on to sign a new contract instead.
However, it was reported at the time that Sesko may only stick around for another season and the subsequent revelation that he has a buyout clause in his new deal suggests that he is open to a transfer.
Arsenal would still prefer to sign another striker
While Sesko seems prepared to make the move to the Emirates, he is not the Gunners’ top target. That remains Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.
Talks have been held with the 25-year-old’s representatives but there are several obstacles in the way of a transfer going ahead.
A club record fee will likely be needed to secure Isak’s services, and the Magpies’ stance on the transfer may change on whether they qualify for the Champions League. If Eddie Howe’s team do finish in the top 4/5, it may not be possible to get him out of St James’ Park. For that reason, having the Sesko deal lined up as a backup option makes a lot of sense.
