The Enugu State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has vowed to conduct a transparent election that will usher in a substantive executive in the council.
This is just as the union has also expressed gratitude to the national president of NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya for accepting the Caretaker Committee, headed by Lady Agatha Agu, in Enugu State Council of the NUJ.
These were contained in a letter addressed to the national president by the State Executive Committee of the union in Enugu State council.
The letter was signed by chairmen and secretaries of the various chapels that make up the state council.
It would be recalled that Lady Agu was elected as the caretaker chairman of the union with Comrade Jude Chinedu as secretary on March 8, 2025, after the botched election of the union.
However, in their appreciation letter, the NUJ Enugu State council, said accepting the Caretaker Committee by the national secretariat of the union had brought a sense of relief and renewed hope for the Union in Enugu State.
While pledging to work closely with the national secretariat to realize the objectives of the NUJ, the SEC members expressed their belief that a transparent election in Enugu NUJ would not only strengthen the Union but also promote the growth and development of journalism in Enugu state.
The letter reads: “We write to express our sincere appreciation to the National President and the entire national leadership of our great Union for accepting the Caretaker Committee in Enugu State Council of the NUJ. This development has brought a sense of relief and renewed hope for our Union in Enugu State, especially after the expiration of the tenure of the executive of the Council.
“We pledge to work closely with the national secretariat to realize the objectives of the NUJ. Our commitment is to uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness in all our dealings.
“Furthermore, we are committed to conducting a transparent election in Enugu NUJ. We believe that this process will not only strengthen our Union but also promote the growth and development of journalism in our state.
“Once again, we thank you for your prompt action and unwavering support. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with the national secretariat.”
