Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has offered automatic employment to 54 postgraduate students who recently returned from India after completing their studies in health-related disciplines.
The governor made this announcement during a special reception and Iftar (Ramadan breaking of fast) organized in their honor on Friday.
The scholars, who studied at Symbiosis International University in Pune, India, were beneficiaries of the state’s foreign scholarship program.
Governor Yusuf assured the graduates that their employment had been finalized and that they would be absorbed into the Kano State Civil Service to strengthen the healthcare sector.
“For excelling in your studies, we have made all necessary arrangements to offer you automatic employment within the Kano State Civil Service. In a short while, your appointment letters will be issued to you through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Head of Service,” the governor announced.
He urged the graduates to apply their expertise to improve healthcare services, particularly in areas such as maternal mortality reduction and sickle cell anemia treatment.
“What surprises me is seeing individuals who benefitted from government sponsorships leave their state to work elsewhere instead of contributing to their state’s development,” he said.
“We appeal to you to bring your wealth of knowledge and expertise to improve the lives of our people, especially women.”
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to human capital development and pledged to continue the foreign scholarship program initiated by former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
“Of the 1,000 beneficiaries, 418 were sent to India and Uganda last year. All have graduated, with the remaining 68 in India expected to return by April,” he stated.
Among the newly employed graduates, 36 are medical doctors, including two veterinary doctors, while the rest comprise 11 pharmacists, two anatomists, and one radiographer.
Kabiru Getso, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Scholarship Board, described the graduates’ training as a significant achievement for the state.
“Some of the courses studied by these scholars are the first of their kind in Kano and Northern Nigeria,” Getso noted.
“Achieving this milestone puts the state in a strong position to improve healthcare service delivery.”
