President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibokete Ibas (retd.) to oversee the administration of Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency.
Tinubu disclosed this on Tuesday in a nationwide broadcast addressing the crisis in Rivers State.
DAILY POST reports that Simi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the State House of Assembly have been suspended for six months.
Tinubu subsequently announced Vice Admiral Ibas as Fubara’s interim replacement.
“Meantime, I hereby nominate Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (retd.) as administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state in the interest of the good people of Rivers State. For the avoidance of doubt, this declaration does not affect the judicial arm of Rivers State, which shall continue to function in accordance with their constitutional mandate,” Tinubu stated.
