The Taraba State Command of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria,VGN, has rescued three persons abducted by gunmen.
The victims, according to the VGN, were rescued from the kidnappers hideout in Eutse Kaehalla, along Minda Road in Lau LGA of the state.
Making the announcement on Tuesday in Jalingo, one of the leaders of the VGN said the operatives took the bull by the horns by storming the kidnappers’ hideout.
The rescued victims were identified as 50 years old Alhaji Umaru Abdullahi, Idi Bello,24, and Abubakar Adamu, 45.
Narrating how they engaged the criminals in a gun battle, overpowering them and forcing them to flee, allowing the victims to be rescued, the VGN urged the government to support them with the much desired logistics that will enable them combat hoodlums making life difficult for the people of the state.
The rescued victims who also recounted their ordeals in the hands of their abductors, said they were taken unaware from their residences late at night.
“They came at midnight with guns and other dangerous weapons, took us away, and chained us, under strict warning to comply or face death,” Abdullahi said.
Abdullahi further revealed that the kidnappers operated from multiple locations within the mountains.
Describing how they were blindfolded and severely beaten, Adamu, who at the time of the interview was still struggling to walk properly, beckoned at the state government and the security operatives to put in place mechanisms that will frustrate the kidnappers’ from taking advantage of the innocent people of the state.
The operation was said to have followed a recent deadly attack on Yelwa community on March 15, where two people were killed and three others abducted.
Confirming the incidents, the VGN Operation Commandant, Muniru Bello Abubakar, stated that kidnappers rely on informants within communities to target victims and evade security forces, warning that those aiding criminals would be treated as accomplices.
“An informant to kidnappers is also a kidnapper,” he declared. He urged residents to be vigilant and report suspicious activities to security forces for swift action.
The commandant also applauded the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, for his continued support to the VGN.
